CHILDREN - NEED TO KNOWS

WHAT IS BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU (BJJ)?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on ground fighting and submission holds. It emphasizes technique, leverage, and positional control, making it an effective self-defense system for practitioners of all sizes.

IS BJJ SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN?

Of course! We offer specialised classes for children, tailored to their age group. Our kids' BJJ program emphasises not only physical fitness but also the importance of teamwork, discipline, and building confidence.

WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR TO THEIR FIRST CLASS?

For the first class, depending on the discipline of class they are attending, comfortable athletic wear is suitable. We have spare Gi to borrow. Once enrolled, your child will need a Phronesis Jiu Jitsu BJJ gi, rash guard and BJJ shorts or tights(leggings) which can be purchased from our gym. We have a pay in 4 option available to assist with the costs of the uniform.

HOW ARE CLASSES STRUCTURED FOR CHILDREN?

Kids' classes include warm-up exercises, skill-building activities, and age-appropriate techniques. Our goal is to make learning BJJ fun while instilling important values like respect and teamwork.

WHAT AGE GROUPS DO YOU CATER FOR IN THE KIDS CLASSES?

Our kids' BJJ classes are divided into age groups: Tots, Kids and Teens ranging from 4 to 14 years old. Each class is specifically designed to meet the developmental needs of the respective age range.

ARE THE KIDS' CLASSES SAFE?

The safety of our young practitioners is our top priority. Our experienced instructors closely supervise every class, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for kids to learn and grow.

CAN PARENTS WATCH THEIR KIDS CLASSES?

Absolutely! Parents, feel free to drop and go for a quick errand or enjoy a cup of coffee nearby. If you're staying to watch please remember, no coaching from the sidelines! Let our instructors lead the way with feedback in real time. Please feel free to encourage your little warrior after you have left the gym.

You are welcome to bring siblings and family to watch, we just ask that you please be considerate of the instructors by keeping noise levels down.

CAN I COMPETE IN BJJ COMPETITIONS?

For those children interested in competition, we provide opportunities for kids to participate in age-appropriate competitions.
